About Barbara L. Wood, Ph.D., APA-CPP Substance Use Disorders

Dr. Barbara Wood is a counseling psychologist in private practice in Bethesda, Maryland. She provides psychotherapy and expert testimony in the areas of addiction, co-dependence and post-traumatic stress. Dr. Wood is the author of two books on familial alcoholism. Her first book, Children of Alcoholism, was published by New York University Press in 1987. It was an alternate selection of the Psychotherapy and Social Sciences Review that year, and is identified in the current New York Review of Books Reader's Catalog as one of the best books in print.
Dr. Wood's second book, Raising Healthy Children in an Alcoholic Home, was published by Crossroads/Continuum in 1992. She holds the Certificate of Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and Other Psychoactive Substance Abuse Disorders from the American College of Professional Psychology, and has been cited by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the top 123 psychotherapists in the Washington, D.C. area. She lectures widely on her work.
